Itinerary
Day 1 :
Arrival and Trek to Papasieti
Meet your experienced guide, driver, and chef in Mekelle, and embark on a scenic drive to the Gheralta Mountains. En route, visit the impressive Abreha and Atsbeha rock-hewn churches. Begin your trekking adventure with a three-hour hike to the Debretsion Abune Abraham monastery, followed by a descent to your campsite in the Papasieti village. Immerse yourself in the local culture and enjoy a night under the stars.

Day 2 :
Trek to Mariam Korkor
After a hearty breakfast, embark on a one-hour trek to the Mariam Papasieti church, followed by a challenging six-hour hike to the iconic Mariam Korkor church. Traverse through picturesque valleys and vibrant villages, experiencing the true essence of rural Tigray. Camp overnight on the summit of Mariam Korkor, enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

Day 3 :
Trek to Agoza Village
Start your day with a visit to both Mariam Korkor and Daniel Korkor churches. Descend to the valley floor and continue your trek to Kemer Mountain, the highest peak in the Gheralta range. Enjoy breathtaking 360-degree views and explore the diverse flora and fauna of the region. Conclude your trek in the charming Agoza village, experiencing traditional Tigrayan hospitality.

Day 4 :
Trek to Koraro Village
Embark on a seven-hour trek to Koraro village, crossing stunning mountain landscapes and hills. Along the way, visit the Abune Gebremichael Koraro church, a hidden gem of the region. Camp for the night in a unique cave setting.

Trek to Abune Yemata
Hike for approximately five hours to the base of Abune Yemata, traversing diverse terrain and encountering local wildlife. Immerse yourself in the stunning natural beauty of the region and prepare for the following day's ascent to the iconic church.

Trek to Abune Yemata

Day 6: Ascent to Abune Yemata and Departure
Early morning ascent to the breathtaking Abune Yemata church, considered one of Ethiopia's most rewarding religious sites. Descend to the base camp for breakfast, followed by a drive to Hawzen town. Experience a traditional coffee ceremony before returning to Mekelle or continuing your journey to Axum or other destinations.
